Briony Anderson

Artists Statement:
Briony Anderson is an artist based within the UK, but mainly between London and Scotland. Working in Scotland, the surrounding landscape is the impetus behind her paintings, which are informed by direct observation and experience in the landscape itself. The works do not demonstrate an attempt to represent the actual view, but convey a sense of immediacy through a personal response to the landscape.

The horizon/seascape has been studied through an extensive series of works – observing and documenting the consistencies and changes within that specific viewpoint. A concern with the blurred divisions between land, sea and sky, and the vastness and changeability of the landscape correspondingly informs the subtle variations of colour and tone used in the paintings.
Continuing to paint outwith Scotland, her practice is evolving to represent memories of the Scottish landscape and as a result, her work is developing more within itself – working in series to allow the actual paintings to draw on and inform each another. In this sense, each work becomes a development of the last - manipulating and constructing movement and gesture through the marks made by the paint.
Briony also works collaboratively and this work is detailed at www.andersonmacgee.co.uk
