She lived in Bristol for several
years, teaching in schools, lecturing in Fine Art at Bristol College
of Art and worked as a free-lance painter/designer taking on a variety
of interesting commissioned
works in public places. While living in England she took part in
major exhibitions in London, Bristol, Cardiff and elsewhere.
Jan moved to the Scottish Highlands
in 1973 spending 2-3 years at a time living in often remote parts
of Sutherland, Wester Ross, Argyll and the Grampians, hill-walking
with a sketchbook, exploring ways of depicting the beauty, the light
and the drama of the Scottish landscape. Working mainly in oils
and watercolour, Jan has successfully exhibited in several galleries
throughout Scotland.
Now living in Pittenweem, Fife,
many of her paintings feature the big skies and seascapes over the
Firth of Forth and the coastal villages fringing its shores, although
often returning to west coast subjects.
In 2000 Jan and John Fisher opened the Fisher Studio & Gallery,
Pittenweem, showing new works by Jan and a diversity of artworks
by mainly established and newly graduated Scottish artists.
