I was born in 1940 in the village of Felton in Northumberland. I lived
there until I married in 1966, when I moved to the town of Ashington,
I have lived here with my family ever since.
Having tried various occupations, I eventually settled for teaching
in 1972, and worked in this profession for 30 years.
Now retired, I devote most of my time to painting, I have always been
interested in art and began painting in my late teens. Although I
have had no formal training, I believe the way I have studied the
past masters - especially 20th Century English painters – has
had a significant influence in the way I have developed as an artist.
I paint exclusively in oils, I enjoy the flexibility of this medium
as it allows me to explore the feel of a subject.
I particularly enjoy painting figurative work, depicting people in
their everyday lives. Recent solo exhibitions:
