Although
now based in Edinburgh, Sheila MacLean’s background is Highland-Hebridean
and the main source of inspiration for her work. She rarely sets
out to capture a specific scene, preferring instead to let memories
merge with paint to form landscapes of shifting light and reflective
moods that are evocative of her native home and the Gaelic language
that defines its beauty, colour and form. Fragments of words and
memory; fusions of land, seas and skies - they all express her sense
of time, place and identity but still offer the observer the freedom
to personalise each piece of work with their own individual thoughts
and feelings.
