statement
I use
paper clay for all my horse sculptures as it is the only type of
clay that allows me to build the pieces up so they are in essence,
self supporting. There are no tools involved, just the application
of torn strips of clay which are used to outline the shape. Each
one is worked on individually and then dried. Once dry they are
fired to a high bisque temperature then treated with various oxides
and re-fired to 1250 C.
The
horses are a recent addition to a twenty year period working with
ceramics. I have been entirely self taught, - a long and sometimes
frustrating option to the more normal routes but somehow I seem
to learn more this way. I have now been working in Lancashire for
about ten years and am working to expand my equine range.
