Statement
from the artist:-
Presently, I am creating 'The Army of Spong', (sounds like tong).
The concept focuses on strength, peace and Love. Sponging
is a state of being. Emotional or mental, this state is a peaceful
and positive state.
The energy of life flows through them, radiating and connecting to
others.
This is the life force.
Through peace and Love, we can learn to find these values within ourselves.
Inspired by the Terracotta Army - an 8,000 life size ceramic collection
of Chinese warriors, which was discovered in china in 1974. This magnificent
Chinese Army was primarily built to protect the first Emperor, Qin
Shi Huang, in the afterlife.
I drew on his belief, of the support and strength that a collective
army can possess. However, rather than the characters holding weapons
and wearing armor, the 'Spong Warriors' only hold Love. |
