Karen Willis
Having
been born and brought up in the Shetland Isles just a stones’
throw from the sea, it isn’t any wonder that Karen has a sense
of the wild and the dramatic in her work.
She has always loved to paint, and especially loves bright colours,
generously applying paint whether onto canvas, paper or board.
For the last few years Karen has lived just south of the Scottish
border in Northumberland, where the coastline is a constant reminder
of “hame”. She is a contemporary landscape/seascape
painter.
One of her main themes is to capture the northern coastline from
as far as Shetland down through Scotland to the Northumbrian coast.
Karen loves to see how the coast changes from the rugged rocks to
windswept sands.
Her work features strong, bright almost translucent colours with
an excellent eye for the subject matter. Karen takes herself and
the viewer on a journey of discovery – experimenting with
different media, styles and colours.
In 2003 her work was shown in the Art Fair in London, through the
Tallantyre gallery in Morepth. Since then she has shown her work
at galleries all over the UK, including Di Rollo gallery, Dundas
Street, Edinburgh, Royal College of Physicians’ and the Biscuit
Factory in Newcastle.
